The International Children’s Film Festival 2016.


Cine Central, Calcutta the largest film society in India has entered its glorious 50th year.


Perhaps you are aware that we are organizing International Film Festival exclusively for Children for many years with resounding success. This non-commercial festival is being organized in collaboration with UNICEF, Nandan (West Bengal Film Centre) and various NGO’s and social bodies.


We are happy to inform you that this year also we are organising the 16th International Children’s Film Festival from July, 2016 to 30th September, 2016, in Kolkata & other districts in West Bengal. We are expecting that like in the past Hon'ble Governor of West Bengal will inaugurate the Festival.


We invite all the countries to participate in the festival, which will be an ideal opportunity to acquaint our children with a global culture. The festival will build the bridge of friendship between the children of different countries. We request to send the films in DVD/Blue Ray format.


Keeping in mind active participation of different countries in the earlier festival we look forward to a resounding success again.








Cine Central, Calcutta presented the 1st Non Governmental International Film Festival in Kolkata in 1986.

Every year the festival is being held in the city of Kolkata under the name INTERNATIONAL FORUM OF NEW CINEMA.

The last edition of the festival was held from 11-18 November 2014 at Basushree Cinema.

Here is a brief report on the festival.

Being Golden Jubilee year, the inaugural ceremony, held on Tuesday, 11th November 2014 at Basusree Cinema, was befitting to the occasion. It was gala, glittering and packed assemble of discerning viewers. The stage was shining with august presence of Legendary Dance Artiste Smt. Amala Shankar, Shri Ranjit Mallick, Renowned film actor and the Chairman, Kolkata Chalachitra Utsav Committee, Shri Soumendu Roy, Renowned Cinematographer and our President Justice Shri Shyamal Kumar Sen. Welcoming the guest Sri Shyamal kumar Sen spoke on the need of preserving the existing cinema halls like Basushree Cinema and calls for the viewer participation in Golden Jubilee Celebration. While inaugurating the festival Smt. Amala Shankar spoke about the inaugural screening of late Uday Shankar’s noted film “Kalpana” at this Basusree Cinema and expressed her happiness to be present and for felicitation.

Shri Ranjit Mallick spoke highlighting the role of Cine Central, Calcutta in promoting film culture over the years, he hope that it would continue to prosper to its Centenary Celebration. Shri Soumendu Roy, while accepting the ‘Satyajit Ray Life Time Achievement Award’, said that he would ever cherish this memorable award. He also informed that like “Kalpana” Satyajit Ray’s Film “Pather Panchali” was also inaugurated at this cinema hall.

On 18th November, 2014 a simple function was held to mark the closing of this eight day long festival. Well known Bengali Film Director Shri Bappaditya Bandhopadhyay, the Chief Guest of the function highlighted the role of film festival to improve film culture of this state. Shri Angshu Sur, former Director of Kolkata Film Festival handed over the “Indibor Bose Award” for the Iranin Film “The Fourth Child”. The prize was received by the General Secretary for onward transmission to the Iranian Director. In conclusion we may say, the Festival is not only of inaugural ceremony or gatherings of VIP’s. The sole criterion of judging the festival is to look on the content of the programme. We can say that the present edition of International Forum of New Cinema in its variety has undoubtedly been able to satisfy the cineastes of the city.

This year we have screened Forty Six films from different from twenty five countries.
